Xbox Disc-to-Digital Is Finally Live — Here's What's Actually Supported

We've been tracking this one for a while — first as a leak back in July, then as an official confirmation in late August — and now it's actually here. Microsoft has begun rolling out Xbox Disc-to-Digital to Xbox Insiders, letting eligible players convert physical Xbox One and Series X/S game discs into digital licenses.

How many games actually work right now

According to tracking from the community project xct.live, nearly 1,000 games have already been confirmed compatible. That's a strong starting number, though it comes with an important caveat: support isn't universal.

Not every publisher is on board

Microsoft has acknowledged that game eligibility depends on a mix of technical, licensing, publishing, and manufacturing factors — and in practice, that means some publishers have opted out entirely. Based on current tracking, Ubisoft, SEGA, and Bandai Namco currently show little to no supported titles, while other publishers have embraced the program much more fully. If you insert an unsupported disc, you'll simply see a message indicating that title isn't participating.

Remember: you still need to keep the disc

This isn't a way to convert a disc into a permanent, disc-free digital copy. The digital license stays tied to your physical disc — if you sell, lose, or give away that disc, the associated digital access can be revoked. So don't go selling off your collection expecting to keep digital access; the whole system depends on you still owning the physical copy.

A nice bonus for Xbox Play Anywhere titles

If a game supports Xbox Play Anywhere, converting it through Disc-to-Digital unlocks the PC version too, playable through the Xbox App on Windows. That's a solid win for anyone who also games on a Windows handheld like the ROG Xbox Ally, or just prefers playing on PC sometimes.

One tip if you're converting a big collection

If you're planning to run through a large stack of discs, Microsoft recommends turning off "Play disc automatically" first (Xbox button → Profile & system → Settings → Devices & connections → Disc → uncheck Play disc automatically) — otherwise, each disc may try to install or launch instead of just registering the license, slowing the whole process down.

Bottom line: what started as a rumor is now a real, working feature — just make sure your favorite games are actually on the supported list, and hang onto those discs even after converting them.
