Cracked Phone Screen? Here's How to Tell If It's Worth Fixing or Replacing

A cracked phone screen is one of the most common — and most stressful — tech problems people deal with. The good news: in most cases, it's fixable, often for a fraction of the cost of a new device. Here's how to figure out which path makes sense for you.

When a screen repair is almost always worth it

  • The phone still works fine otherwise — if everything besides the screen (battery, camera, buttons, charging port) is functioning normally, a screen repair usually restores the phone to full use for a fraction of replacement cost.
  • The phone is less than 3-4 years old — newer devices hold enough resale and functional value that fixing the screen is almost always cheaper than replacing the whole device.
  • It's your only visible damage — a single crack or shattered glass with a still-responsive touchscreen is usually a straightforward, same-day fix.

When it's worth considering replacement instead

  • The phone has multiple issues — a cracked screen plus a failing battery, water damage, or a phone that's already several generations old often means the repair cost starts approaching what a refurbished replacement would cost.
  • The touchscreen itself doesn't respond, not just the glass — this can sometimes mean deeper internal damage, which may cost more to properly diagnose and fix.
  • You were already planning to upgrade soon — if you were a few months from replacing the phone anyway, sometimes it makes more sense to trade it in as-is rather than repair and then sell shortly after.

What actually affects screen repair cost

  • Phone model and screen type (OLED vs. LCD, foldable vs. standard)
  • Whether it's just the glass or the full display assembly that's damaged
  • Genuine vs. aftermarket parts (we always recommend asking which one you're getting quoted for)

Not sure which category you fall into?

That's exactly why we offer free diagnostics before any repair — we'll tell you honestly whether fixing it makes sense, or if you'd genuinely be better off trading it in or exploring a replacement. No pressure either way.

Bottom line: A cracked screen isn't automatically a "buy a new phone" situation. In most cases, a quick, affordable repair gets you right back to normal — and we're happy to give you a straight answer on which path makes sense for your specific device.
